College and Career Readiness Information

What is a college and career readiness conference?

The college and career readiness conference is a state mandated program that begins in a student’s 7th grade year and continues on through high school.  Formerly known as an “SEOP” conference, the newly named CCR conference helps students prepare for their future.  It includes high school, college and career planning.

What will we talk about during my student’s college and career readiness conference?

Typically, the counselor will go over a student’s grades and test scores, and ask the student about their abilities, interests and goals for the future.  The 8th grade CCR meeting usually lasts about 30 minutes.

How should I prepare for my college and career readiness conference?
Why is a college and career readiness conference important?

Students and parents should come prepared with any questions they may have about high school, college and/or careers.   Please be advised that some specific questions about high school may be referred to the high school counselors to assure that you receive the most accurate information.  Although the counselor is there to guide the CCR conference, the meeting is always more successful when parents provide direction and encouragement for their child.  Any concerns that a parent or student has may also be addressed at this time.  If additional time is needed, a second appointment can be scheduled

Your CCR conference is an opportunity for parents to review their child’s accomplishments and discuss their interests and goals. We have found that most students value having this individual attention with their parents and counselor.  All 8th grade students are required to have an individual CCR meeting and we strongly encourage you to attend.
